FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

From booking your stay to exploring the Algarve — answered.

Booking & Arrival

What are the check-in and check-out times?

Check-in is from 16:00. Check-out is by 11:00. Please let us know your expected arrival time in advance so we can prepare your welcome. A 24-hour front desk means late arrivals are always accommodated — just give us notice.

Can I arrange an early check-in or late check-out?

Yes. Early check-in or late check-out is available for a flat fee of €50, subject to availability. Request it when you book and we'll do our best to accommodate you.

Do I need to tell you when I'm arriving?

Yes — we ask all guests to confirm their expected arrival time ahead of the stay. This ensures someone is ready to greet you, show you around the property, and have your room exactly as it should be.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations made more than 48 hours before your arrival date are free of charge and fully refundable. Cancellations within 48 hours of arrival are non-refundable. No-shows are charged the full cost of the first night; remaining nights are released at no charge.

Is there a minimum stay?

There is no fixed minimum stay for most dates. During peak summer periods and public holidays, a minimum of two or three nights may apply. Contact us directly or check availability online for your specific dates.

Is there a benefit to booking direct?

Yes — a significant one. Booking directly through our website guarantees the best available rate, lower than any OTA including Booking.com or Expedia. You also get direct contact with us from the moment you reserve, room preferences noted, and no commission markups built into your price.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept Visa, Mastercard, bank transfer, and cash. A 30% deposit is required at the time of booking, with the balance due at check-in or 7 days prior to arrival.

Can I make a special request — anniversary, birthday, celebration?

Absolutely. Let us know at the time of booking and we will do our best to have something ready for your arrival. We can arrange flowers, wine, or a small arrangement in the room — just get in touch and we'll work it out with you.

Accommodation

How many rooms do you have?

Mercedes Country House has 9 rooms across four types: Double Room with Garden, Double Room with Garden View, Family Room with Mountain View, and Deluxe Double Room with Mountain View. The property accommodates up to 14 guests in fixed beds, with extra beds available on request.

What's included in every room?

All rooms include air conditioning, a private en-suite bathroom with walk-in shower, free WiFi, a flat-screen TV, minibar, in-room safe, and a private terrace or patio. Complimentary breakfast is included with every booking. The property is entirely non-smoking.

Which room is best for a couple?

The Deluxe Double Room with Mountain View is our most intimate option — a 20 m² room with a private hedge-enclosed patio where the Algarve hills rise beyond the garden. Quiet, unhurried, and close to everything without feeling exposed to it. The Double Room with Garden and Double Room with Garden View are also popular with couples who want direct garden access.

Which room is best for families?

The Family Room with Mountain View is purpose-built for families — 35 m² with flexible configuration and room for up to four adults plus an extra bed for children. The Serra do Caldeirão rises through the window. It's the largest room on the property and the one families return to.

Can I add extra beds or a cot?

Extra beds are available at €25 per night for children under 12 and €50 per night for guests aged 12 and over. Cots can be arranged at no additional charge. Let us know when you book so everything is ready on arrival.

Can I request a specific room?

Yes. When booking direct, note your preference and we will do our best to accommodate it. We cannot guarantee a specific room until check-in, but room requests are always taken seriously and honoured wherever possible.

Can I book the whole property exclusively?

Yes. Mercedes Country House is available for exclusive buyouts — ideal for family gatherings, retreats, or small celebrations. With 9 rooms and all facilities included, it works well as a private venue. Get in touch to discuss availability and pricing.

Amenities & Facilities

Is breakfast included?

Yes — a complimentary buffet breakfast is included with every stay. It's served each morning as a relaxed, unhurried way to start the day before heading out to the beaches or settling in by the pool.

Is there parking and EV charging?

Free private parking is available on site — no need to book, simply arrive. We also have EV charging stations for guests travelling with electric vehicles, one of the few properties in the area to offer this.

What about WiFi?

Free WiFi is available throughout the entire property — in your room, by the pool, on the roof terrace, and in all common areas. Signal is reliable throughout.

What facilities are available on the grounds?

A 50 m² saltwater outdoor pool, a games room with pool table, a roof terrace with panoramic views across the Algarve hills, and the on-site Siam Thai restaurant serving lunch and dinner. The restaurant is also open to non-guests.

Is laundry service available?

Yes — laundry service is available during your stay, with charges applied per item. Ask at reception for the full list and turnaround times.

Is there a gym or spa?

Mercedes Country House does not have a gym or spa on site. The focus is on outdoor space, the pool, and the natural setting of the Algarve countryside. Guests looking for wellness treatments can ask reception to recommend nearby options.

Can I store luggage after check-out?

Yes. Luggage storage is available on the day of departure so you can make the most of your final hours without dragging bags around. Just leave it with reception.

Pool & Outdoors

Tell me about the pool.

The outdoor pool is 50 m² and filled with saltwater — gentler on skin and eyes than chlorine, and a noticeably different experience once you've swum in one. It's set within the grounds with views across the garden and surrounding Algarve hills. Sun loungers are provided around the pool at no charge.

Is the pool heated?

The pool is unheated. In the Algarve, this is rarely an issue — water temperatures are comfortable from May through October, and during peak summer months the pool is warm enough by midmorning. If you're visiting outside summer, ask us and we'll give you an honest read on conditions for your dates.

Are pool towels provided?

Yes — pool towels are provided for all guests. You do not need to bring your own or take room towels to the pool.

Is the pool safe for children?

Children are welcome in the pool. Parents and guardians are responsible for supervising children at all times — the pool area is not staffed as a lifeguard station. Ask at reception for details specific to your children's ages.

What are the pool opening hours?

The pool is available to guests throughout the day. Exact hours may vary seasonally — ask at check-in for your stay's specific schedule.

Siam Restaurant

What is Siam?

Siam is the on-site Thai restaurant at Mercedes Country House — one of the only authentic Thai restaurants in the Algarve interior. The kitchen serves traditional dishes made with imported ingredients, run by a team with roots in Thailand. It has become a destination in its own right, drawing diners from across the region.

What kind of food does Siam serve?

Authentic Thai cuisine — from classics like Pad Thai, green curry, and Tom Yum to lesser-known regional dishes. The menu spans street food staples and more considered dishes, with everything made fresh in-house. It is not a fusion restaurant — the food is genuinely Thai.

Is Siam open to non-guests?

Yes. Siam is open to the public and welcomes non-guests for both lunch and dinner. It has built a loyal following among locals and visitors to the central Algarve who return specifically for the food.

What are Siam's opening hours?

Siam serves lunch and dinner daily. Exact seasonal hours can vary — check with reception on arrival or visit the Siam restaurant page for current times.

Do I need to book a table at Siam?

Walk-ins are welcome, but during peak season — July, August, and around Portuguese public holidays — tables fill quickly. Booking in advance is strongly recommended for dinner. As a hotel guest you can ask reception to reserve for you.

Does Siam cater for vegetarians, vegans, or dietary requirements?

Yes. Thai cuisine naturally accommodates many dietary preferences, and the Siam kitchen can adapt dishes for vegetarians and vegans. For specific allergies or requirements, please inform us when booking your table so the kitchen can prepare accordingly.

Is Siam suitable for a group dinner?

Yes. Siam can host group bookings and is a popular choice for family dinners, birthday celebrations, and private group meals. Contact us in advance for groups of six or more so we can prepare the right space.

Pets

Is Mercedes Country House dog-friendly?

Yes. Mercedes Country House is a dog-friendly hotel in the Algarve. We welcome dogs with a maximum of two pets per booking. Pets are accommodated in specific rooms only — please contact us before booking so we can arrange the right room for you and your dog.

Is there a charge for bringing a dog?

Small dogs stay at no additional charge. A small nightly supplement applies for larger dogs — contact us directly for the current rate. We keep it reasonable; we know dogs are family.

Are there good walks nearby for dogs?

The countryside around Santa Bárbara de Nexe is excellent walking territory — quiet lanes, open hillside, and very little traffic once you're away from the village. The Serra do Caldeirão natural park is within easy reach for longer trails. The Algarve coast also has several dog-friendly beaches outside the high-season protected zones — ask at reception for the closest options for your dates.

Are cats or other pets welcome?

Our pet policy currently covers dogs only. If you're travelling with another type of pet, get in touch before booking and we'll do our best to find a solution — we'd rather have the conversation than a surprise at check-in.

Getting Here & Getting Around

How far are you from Faro Airport?

Roughly 20 minutes by car. Mercedes Country House sits in Santa Bárbara de Nexe, a quiet village in the central Algarve interior, positioned between Faro and Albufeira. It is one of the closest country house hotels to Faro Airport in the region — close enough for convenience, far enough to feel like you've arrived somewhere different.

Can you arrange airport transfers?

Airport transfers can be arranged on request. Contact us ahead of your arrival and we'll coordinate the details — it's one of the simplest things to arrange and removes any stress from the journey in.

How do I get here by car?

From Faro Airport, follow the IP1 westbound, exit at Santa Bárbara de Nexe, and follow the signs to the village. Approximately 20 minutes. GPS coordinates: 37.0878° N, 7.9697° W. The final stretch is a country lane — it is correct, not a wrong turn. Full directions on our Getting Here page.

What is the full address?

Lugar Medronhal 475Z, 8005-502 Santa Bárbara de Nexe, Faro, Portugal.

Do I need a car to stay here?

For most guests, yes — a car is recommended. The Algarve is best explored by road, and having your own wheels makes it significantly easier to reach beaches, markets, and the wider region. On-site parking is free. That said, if you plan to spend most of your time at the property — pool, garden, restaurant — you can manage without one.

Is there public transport from Faro?

Bus services connect Faro to Santa Bárbara de Nexe, though frequency is limited and not always convenient for guests arriving by flight. If you are not renting a car, we recommend booking an airport transfer with us or taking a taxi from Faro — it is a short, straightforward journey.

Can I get a taxi or Uber from the property?

Yes. Taxis can be arranged through reception. Uber operates in the Algarve region, including coverage to and from Santa Bárbara de Nexe, though availability may be limited late at night. For reliable transfers, we recommend booking through us in advance.

Children & Families

Are children welcome?

All ages are welcome at Mercedes Country House. The property has a children's play area, a games room, and a pool that keeps younger guests occupied. Extra beds for children under 12 are €25 per night; for those aged 12 and over, €50 per night.

Can I get a cot for an infant?

Yes — travel cots are available at no charge. Let us know when you book so one is ready in your room on arrival. We can also arrange a highchair for meal times at Siam.

Is the property suitable for a multi-family or group holiday?

Very much so. With 9 rooms and the option to book the full property exclusively, Mercedes Country House is a natural fit for multi-family holidays, extended family gatherings, and group stays. The shared pool, games room, roof terrace, and on-site restaurant mean everyone has space without having to leave the grounds.

Are there activities for children nearby?

The Algarve offers a wide range of family activities — water parks, boat trips, dolphin watching, coastal hiking, and some of Europe's best beaches. Zoomarine (aquatic theme park) is under an hour away. Faro city's historic old town is 20 minutes. Ask at reception and we'll tailor suggestions to what suits your children's ages best.

The Algarve

What is Santa Bárbara de Nexe like?

Santa Bárbara de Nexe is a quiet, unhurried village in the central Algarve interior — the kind of place where the pace drops the moment you arrive. There are a handful of local restaurants, a weekly market, and the particular calm of a village that has not been overrun by tourism. It sits at a natural midpoint between Faro and Albufeira, making it an ideal base for exploring the whole region.

When is the best time to visit the Algarve?

May, June, September, and October are the best months for most travellers. The weather is warm and reliable — regularly above 25°C — without the intensity of July and August when beaches are at their busiest and temperatures can exceed 35°C. Spring brings wildflowers and emptier roads. Autumn keeps the warmth with a calmer feel. Winter is mild by Northern European standards and increasingly popular for longer stays.

What are the nearest beaches?

The Algarve coastline is within 20–30 minutes in most directions. Closest options include Praia de Faro (barrier island beach, ~25 min), Praia da Falésia near Albufeira (dramatic red cliffs, ~30 min), and the beaches around Vilamoura and Quarteira (~25 min). For something quieter, the eastern Algarve beaches toward Tavira and the Ria Formosa are an hour away but genuinely worth it.

How far is Faro city centre?

Faro city centre is approximately 15–20 minutes by car. The historic old town — known as the Cidade Velha — is enclosed by medieval walls and sits on the edge of the Ria Formosa lagoon. It's a half-day well spent: cathedral, cobbled streets, the lagoon waterfront, and genuinely good local restaurants.

How far is Albufeira?

Albufeira is approximately 30 minutes by car. The old town has a different character from the resort strip — narrow streets, cliff views, and decent seafood. The beaches immediately around Albufeira are among the most photographed in the Algarve.

What can I do near Mercedes Country House?

Beaches in every direction, boat trips into the Ria Formosa, dolphin watching from Portimão or Vilamoura, the Roman ruins at Milreu (10 minutes away), the market town of Loulé (20 minutes), Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo for golf, and the Serra do Caldeirão mountains for hiking. Ask at reception — we know this region well and will tailor suggestions to your interests.

Can I take day trips to Seville or Lisbon?

Seville is approximately 2.5 hours by car — a very manageable day trip if you set off by 9am. Lisbon is around 3 hours by car or 2.5 hours by train from Faro. Both are worth at least one day. Seville in particular surprises people who don't expect it to be so close from the Algarve.

What is the weather like in the Algarve?

The Algarve enjoys over 300 days of sunshine per year — one of the highest in Europe. Summer (June–August) is hot and dry, regularly 30–35°C. Spring and autumn are warm — typically 20–28°C — with mild evenings. Winters average 15–18°C during the day. Rain falls mainly between November and February but rarely lasts more than a day or two.

What currency is used and can I pay by card everywhere?

Portugal uses the Euro (€). Card payments are widely accepted across the Algarve — restaurants, shops, petrol stations, and most markets. ATMs are easy to find in Faro, Loulé, and Albufeira. In very rural areas and at smaller roadside stalls, cash is still preferred — it's worth keeping €50–100 in hand.
